Who uses our services

Building Owner

How can we help you?

We help building owners by providing professional building envelope assessment, analysis, design, quality assurance, and project administration.

We recognize that each building and each building owner is unique. That is why we take a client-centered approach to each building. Example building owner considerations include expected outcomes, appearance and aesthetics, first costs, return on investment, tolerance for disruption, operations and occupant sensitivities.

Typically, the building owner utilizes our services on a reactive or proactive basis:

Reactive services serve a direct need or fix an existing problem. For many building owners, an assessment, diagnosis, or un-biased second opinion is all that is required. For other owners, turn-key services beginning with initial assessment and progressing to project management services are desired to repair or rehabilitate a problem condition.

Proactive services can be utilized for either existing structures or new construction projects. In the case of existing structures, our services predict future concerns and establish recommendations and budgets for future repair efforts. Services for new construction projects include review of drawings and documents to prevent possible building envelope issues prior to construction.

We have experience with the full spectrum of operations tolerance.

Board Member

How can we help you?

Board members all share commonalities regardless of whether they serve on a board at a school, church, condo association, property, buildings and grounds or others. As an example, board participation is frequently voluntary and resulting in very little, if any, compensation. Second, these boards are all political in nature and are subject to the scrutiny of the organization they were appointed by or of the public at large. Third, participation in a board requires making decisions about issues that many people are not educated about or feel comfortable addressing. Fourth, to be successful, boards must be able to demonstrate accomplishments.

We help these boards and board members by keeping these commonalities/considerations in mind. Our core principle is to provide unbiased, transparent, and accountable services from initial assessment to project completion. To remain completely unbiased, we are not affiliated with any contractor or product manufacturer. Furthermore, we are committed to ethical practice and charging a fair rate for all of our services from beginning to end. We do not offer free services because this practice usually requires other businesses to unfairly increase fees at another phase of the project. We are completely accountable to our clients as every dollar is accounted for; every decision and recommendation is disclosed.

Design Professional

How can we help you?

First, we can help design professionals complete their projects by providing peer review and commissioning services for their building envelope designs. Our unique perspective is a result of our extensive experience with repair and rehabilitation of existing building envelopes.

Second, we help design professionals by observing projects through construction. Why? Much of our practice involves building envelope failure early in the building life cycle – within the first few years. These failures are often a result of a lack of understanding of building envelope details, value engineering efforts by multiple parties, and/or poor or inadequate installation practices. In many instances, all three of these factors contribute to failure. We provide design professionals additional peace of mind with trained, expert quality assurance and observation services during construction.

Typically, our services are utilized on a reactive or proactive basis:

Unfortunately for design professionals, reactive services are a result of a problem. We provide diagnosis and assessment of envelope failures, including poor thermal performance, leaks, breaches, etc. We also provide assessment and verification of design vs. as-built conditions.

Proactive services for new construction and design professionals focus on pre-construction design review, quality assurance, and observation.

Historic Preservation

How can we help you?

Restoration and preservation of historic structures is our passion. We help individuals and organizations dedicated to preservation of historic structures by providing initial condition assessments, opinions, and recommendations to maintain historically accurate building envelope components while restoring weatherproof performance to aged structures.

Most historic construction techniques and craftsmanship skills have been forgotten by today’s industry. As part of the historic preservation assessment and design, we first seek an understanding of the symbolism and original architectural intent of the structure. Next, a working understanding of construction methods, techniques, and materials used during original construction is required. This base understanding supports us in the task of selecting modern materials, techniques, and contractors capable of integrating the new with the original.
